When you are self-isolated or quarantined at home, it is easy to just sit in front of the TV or Netflix I know I have Hart of Dixie on replay since this pandemic started. It is fun to get lost in mindless entertainment for awhile, but I will warn you that the flu episode is triggering. I mean seriously if you are on social media or watch the news and have it on all day that is enough to make anyone’s stress level go through the roof. So instead of focusing on what is going on in the world that you can’t control, why not instead, focus on something you can control like adding more self-care options in your life.
Take a break from Social Media and News
The first way to practice self- care is get off of social media and only look at the new one time a day. I would suggest around 6 pm or so turn on the news and then do something fun after that to clear your mind. Because if you don’t you will be stressing yourself out.
If you feel overwhelmed by everything going on, allow yourself some time away from your phone and your computer. If you are working from home and can’t do that at least use an app that blocks out times that you can’t access social media
Get Moving
Exercise doesn’t have to feel like work. During this time of isolation, don’t beat yourself up about eating those extra few cookies. In other words, don’t make exercise out to be punishment. Instead, focus on making exercise fun. Enlist your family to come up some unique ways to get moving. There are a ton of YouTube videos you can do together and I have seen some families really bonding over making tic-toc videos.
Be Creative
Self-care also means doing something that ignites your passion. If you are a creative person, which I am that means doing projects around the house. I have this one friend that is doing small projects around her house that inspires me to do the same. Now is the time to take advantage of being home and get some of those projects you always wanted to do but never have time to do done.
At-Home Spa Day
Salons and spas are closed but that doesn’t mean you have to stop taking care of yourself. I will be honest with you my favorite thing to do in the world is having my hair washed by somebody else. If this shelter at home order stays in place much longer, I might enlist my hubby to do just that.IT can feel amazing to paint your nails, use new skincare products, take a hot bath, or put on a face mask. It is simple inexpensive, and something to do for yourself while at home. Why not take the time to spend some time on yourself. Heck, you can even pour a glass of wine, light some candles, put on a face mask and take a bubble bath.
Practice Meditation or Mindfulness
Lastly, relax your mind and body with meditation or mindfulness. With meditation, you can practice breathing exercises that let you clear your mind and focus on positive energy. There are a lot of great podcasts to listen to for meditation. If you prefer mindfulness, you will appreciate what is in this moment, without worrying about the past or stressing about the future.
These are just a few of the suggestions on at home self-care options. Drop a comment below if you have one that works for you that isn’t listed.
