How To Make Your Fresh Flowers Last

Remember the trick I taught you here. Well here are some sure fire ways to make your fresh flowers last. First, did you know that roses have something called guard petals? If you aren’t sure what they are they are the outer petals that tend to turn brown or wilt quickly.

You know what I am talking about, sometimes the flower bouquets in the store get passed over because the outer petals are just less than desirable. Who wants to spend their hard earned money on flowers that look dead? But you can easily bring them back to life if you remove these guard petals. Removing them will also make the flowers last longer. It is a very easy process and will take less than a minute to do. To remove the guard petal just gently pull off the wilted petals. Be careful not to pull too hard or you may pull off more than you wanted and you will be left with no flower because it has fallen apart. (Save the petals to make potpourri later. Don’t worry if you don’t know how to make potpourri, I am going to try to make some and show you how to as well.) This should give your roses a fresh look. Also trim off excess foliage (leaves, thorns, etc…) from your flowers as well. You can keep some of the extra foliage on the flower as fillers but not too much. The extra foliage just takes the needed nutrients from your arrangements. Also, make sure to change the water every couple of days because just like humans fresh flowers love fresh water.

If you follow these tips you will have floral arrangements that last longer saving you a little extra money – money that can be spent somewhere else or saved for a rainy day.
