The Sea Captain’s House More Than A Restaurant

Last week, my husband and I took a much needed break from all our busy activities and took a day trip. Just him and I. Although we didn’t talk alot just being near each other was all we needed. We decided to spend the day in Myrtle Beach. I had a story to write for my other blog, Adventures of Frugal Mom so he decided to go along for the ride. Well not the ride since he did all the driving. The day was just what we needed.

The drive down was uneventful as I worked some, we chatted, and the scenery was amazing. We talked about our plans for the summer with the girls getting out of school soon, Gracie’s birthday party which was that Friday and the impending arrival of his brother and his wife from Mexico on Friday as well. We just enjoyed being with each other. Sometimes words are not needed, just being there for each other is better and with how crazy his work schedule has been lately I am glad he took the day to just be with me.

We arrived in Myrtle Beach, and I got everything I needed for my story and a stealthie was taken as well. Then we set out to explore the town and find a place for lunch. We were both starving. Driving up and down King’s Highway we soon discovered that it was bike week in Myrtle Beach. If I saw one bike I swear I saw a million. They were everywhere.

I had researched restaurants to eat while in Myrtle Beach and I landed on one that I thought was interesting, The Sea Captain’s House. It has quite a bit of history. It was once a vacation home , and was slated to be torn down to become a high rise resort. But the funding fell through and while they were waiting for other funds they decided to operate it as a restaurant. That took and it has been a restaurant since 1962.

It is an absolutely fabulous place to eat, nestled in between two resorts the charm of the quaint cottage, the amazing southern hospitality of the staff , the breathtaking views while dining as well as the absolutely scrumptious food that is served will be reasons I want to go back.

Our waitress Katherine was so very sweet and accomodating. And it wasn’t just with our table, I noticed that was how she interacted with all the tables she waited on. She even took the time to answer the questions of the couple that was sitting behind us and believe me that had a ton of questions.

Now onto the food. I am normally not a seafood person but I have decided I want to branch out and try new things. I had the Fillet of Local Flounder fried with a baked potato and sauteed vegetables.  The food was amazing. I ended up eating all but a few of the vegetables but I did ask for a to go box because those vegetables were just to delicious to leave on the plate. I didn’t even use ketchup on the fish and for me that is huge. My husband who doesn’t venture much from what he likes got a cheeseburger go figure right.

After lunch, we were able to walk outside and snap a few pictures of the amazing view.

If you are ever in Myrtle Beach, make sure to eat at The Sea Captain’s House located at 3002 N. Ocean Blvd and tell them I recommended it. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
