If you’re like me and moved right before all this stay at home stuff went into place then trust that you’re not the only one feeling stir crazy! I’m right there with you. I moved to a new home just days before shelter in place took effect in our city. This means I’m trapped in a nearly empty home and half my stuff is still in inaccessible storage. This won’t stop me from trying to make this place as homey and comfortable as possible, though. Check out my favorite ways to decorate a new home.
Start with the essentials
When you first move in, you know the first thing you need to do is set up your bed. Even if all you do is put it in the right spot, slap some sheets on it, and call it a day, this still counts. Get your essential furniture pieces set up and in their spots before you do anything else. Trust me, y’ all—this will save you a headache later. Once you have your essentials ready and in their places, you can imagine where you’ll have space to decorate.
Choose a color scheme
While I personally am waiting a bit to paint until I can get some friends in my home to help, that hasn’t stopped me from picking out the best colors for my walls. Don’t just stop at the wall color decisions—decide on a whole color scheme for each room in your home. Deciding on a color palette can help direct you toward what decorations you need. If you go with bright and bold walls, you may want more subtle décor. On the other hand, if you go with neutral walls, intricate decor should be your go-to.
Pick out a few statement pieces
Once you’ve chosen where you have space for decorations and what types of decorations you need, start searching online for statement pieces. Try picking out one for each room. Statement pieces are a great place to start with decorating because they allow you to have something to work around. Once you have a statement piece, you can pick out smaller pieces of decor that compliment it.
Even though this may be a less than ideal time to move, you get to benefit from the extra time at home by decorating and envisioning your ideal space.
