States Most Curious About Aliens: Colorado Tops the List

Halloween usually has us thinking about ghosts, haunted houses, and things that go bump in the night. But for plenty of Americans, the mystery is overhead.

Are we alone in the universe? What was that strange light in the sky? And could an alien visitor please explain why groceries cost so much?

According to an analysis supplied by VIP-Grinders, Americans make an estimated 61,000 alien- and UFO-related searches every day. Colorado leads the state ranking for search interest relative to population.

Whether you’re a devoted UFO enthusiast or someone who enjoys a little Halloween mystery, the findings offer a fun look at America’s curiosity about extraterrestrial life.

America’s Alien Curiosity Adds Up

Using Google Keyword Planner search-volume estimates, the analysis puts nationwide alien- and UFO-related searches at approximately:

Time periodEstimated searches
Daily61,042
Monthly1.86 million
Yearly22.28 million

That works out to roughly 42 searches every minute.

These are estimates of search activity, rather than counts of individual people. Someone who searches several related phrases may contribute more than once, and looking up UFOs doesn’t necessarily mean believing that aliens have visited Earth.

Sometimes curiosity is simply curiosity—with a side of late-night scrolling.

The Top 10 States for Alien-Related Searches

The supplied analysis ranks states by average monthly searches per 100,000 residents, putting Colorado ahead of Indiana and Alaska.

Colorado’s reported rate is more than 16 times that of Washington, D.C., which placed last in the full ranking of 50 states and the District of Columbia.

Interestingly, the places most closely associated with UFO stories didn’t lead the list. The analysis places New Mexico 18th and Nevada 27th.

A famous connection to alien lore, it seems, doesn’t automatically translate into the highest search interest.

Some People Are Putting Money Behind the Mystery

For some Americans, wondering about aliens goes beyond the search bar.

The supplied analysis reports that more than $37 million in trading volume had accumulated on a Kalshi market asking whether the U.S. government would confirm that aliens exist.

At the snapshot cited in the analysis, market pricing implied:

  • Approximately a 19.9% chance of confirmation before January 20, 2029.
  • Approximately a 1% chance of confirmation before Halloween.

Those figures reflect market pricing at a particular moment. They can change, and they are not scientific evidence that extraterrestrial life exists.

Trading volume also does not mean $37 million is currently sitting in bets. Contracts can change hands repeatedly, adding to the total.

For a Champagne Style Bare Budget approach, you can enjoy the mystery without spending money on the outcome. A fascinating question doesn’t need to become another expense.

Bring a Little Outer-Space Fun to Halloween

You don’t need a pricey costume, elaborate decorations, or a prediction-market account to enjoy an alien-themed evening.

Make an Alien Movie Night

Check the streaming services you already pay for or your library’s movie collection. Add popcorn, dim the lights, and let someone else handle the intergalactic drama.

Choose a film that suits your audience, whether that’s a family-friendly adventure or something a little spookier.

Create a Costume From What You Own

Metallic accessories, an unusual makeup look, and homemade antennae can give an ordinary outfit an outer-space twist.

Look through your closet and craft supplies before buying anything. The best part of a playful costume is often the creativity behind it.

Give Your Snacks a Galactic Makeover

Turn ordinary treats into “moon rocks,” “space snacks,” or “alien fuel” with homemade labels.

You’re serving the same affordable snacks—just with a little more imagination.

Spend Some Time Looking at the Stars

On a clear evening, step outside somewhere safe and away from bright lights when possible. Bring a blanket and enjoy a few quiet minutes looking up.

You don’t have to solve the mysteries of the universe to appreciate the view.

Keep the Wonder—and Your Budget

The supplied findings suggest that alien curiosity stretches well beyond the usual UFO hotspots. From Colorado to Massachusetts, people are turning to their search bars with questions about what might be out there.

For the rest of us, it’s an invitation to have a little fun this Halloween. Watch a movie, make something silly, or spend an evening under the stars.

Would you welcome an alien visitor, or would you turn off the porch light and pretend you weren’t home?
