3 Tips for Storing Your Holiday Decorations from North Carolina Lifestyle Blogger Champagne Style Bare Budget

We are well into the holiday season, which means it’s time to dig out those festive decorations. If you’re anything like me, this also means coming face-to-face with the mess in your attic or basement. I don’t know about y’all, but we’ve definitely had years where our storage solutions were somewhat less than ideal. Let this year be the end of crumbling boxes, tangled lights, and precarious towers of storage bins. When the holidays come to an end, keep everything safe and easy to access with these three tips for storing your holiday decorations.

Bag It

Storage containers are great, but not being able to see inside them can be frustrating. Clear bags are a great way to keep things organized while making it easy to find exactly what you’re looking for. Use a handful of clear gallon bags to separate and store ornaments within a larger container. You can also use old dry-cleaning bags or larger store bags to cover wreaths and smaller trees. Doing this will protect your decorations from dust while keeping those pesky plastic pine needles in check.

Find Sturdy Storage Containers

Do you have enough containers to keep everything safe throughout the year? If y’all want to make sure your favorite decorations stay intact for next winter, you need a durable storage bin that won’t crumble or collapse. A good storage container also keeps out pests, dust, and any other harmful elements that can make their way into your attic or crawl space. From handy metal tins to larger plastic bins and buckets, make sure you have the storage containers and the space you need to keep everything organized and safe all year long.

Get Creative With Recycling

No one wants to dig out their decorations only to find broken ornaments and impossible tangles of lights and garland. Fortunately, you can find some of the best tricks and tips for storing your holiday decorations in your recycling bin! Save an egg container or two to store smaller fragile ornaments safely. Cardboard tubes or metal tins are perfect for wrapping strings of light or garland around. Strings of beads also fit well into plastic bottles. Save yourself a little bit of money and a whole lot of stress by using these and other hacks to organize your decorations before sticking them in the attic for the year.
