Follow These Travel Tips To Ensure A Successful Trip
If travel season is upon you (it should always be travel season), it is time to begin planning and preparing for your next big adventure. Follow these travel tips for a more enjoyable and seamless vacation every time.
Plan for Parking
Driving to the airport can be very stressful. From the drive time and the potential for headache-inducing traffic delays to finding a safe place to park, many things can and may potentially go wrong to ruin your vacation before it even begins. The answer to avoiding any problems is offsite airport parking.
By selecting long-term parking away from the airport, you have an easy and convenient way to park your vehicle and get to the airport on time. Choose a parking company that offers a fenced and securely monitored facility. This way, your car will be right where you left it when you return. Additionally, it is important to use a company that provides a 24/7 shuttle service because, as you know, flight delays and red-eye flights are commonplace.
Use an App
There is an app for nearly everything in today’s world. When it comes to travel, you should find and download to your smartphone any applicable app that will aid you on your trip. Some helpful ones may include:
- Airline (Set up flight change notifications badges and icons.)
- Travel Insurance
- Rental Car Company
- Hotel
- Smart Traveler (Use for U.S. State Department information such as travel advisories or embassy locations.)
- Currency Converter
- Translator
- Map (Look to see if the maps can be downloaded and used offline.)
Please note that many apps require a login ID and password. Some of the apps may allow you to remain logged in, however, if your phone loses battery or needs a hard restart, you will likely have to log into each app once again. To that end, you must remember pertinent account information. Otherwise, you will need to spend your precious vacation time resetting user IDs and passwords.
Make Copies of Important Documents
In an ideal world, your vacation is perfect, and nothing goes wrong. In reality, unexpected things happen. You might leave a bag containing your important documents in a rideshare. Or perhaps you leave them at home and do not realize it until it is too late to retrieve them. In another scenario, your documents are stolen. To mitigate the potential for damage in any of these unfortunate and frustrating situations, you should take proactive measures to protect your valuable personal information.
Start by laying out all your travel documents, personal papers, and identification cards. Next, scan everything using a scanner app on your smartphone or a scanner. Sometimes taking a picture will not work due to low lighting or poor quality of the photo. Be sure you scan the front and back of everything. Finally, save the scans to a secure cloud that you can access anywhere and anytime.
While you are at it, take a few moments to make copies of each item you are scanning. Store the paper copies in a safe at home, just in case. By having digital copies of your information, you can contact individual companies to cancel credit cards, notify the U.S. Embassy of your passport number, or call your insurance company if you have an accident. It is also easier to report a theft or loss to the local authorities as you will know exactly what documentation you had on you instead of trying to remember when you are in a stressful situation.
Remember to Relax
Depending on your personality and your intended itinerary, you may be going at full speed throughout your vacation. If that is how you enjoy your life and your free time, and it works for you, great! Not everyone can maintain high-octane intentions. If you would rather slow down and take time to relax, you need to be mindful of that.
Too often, couples and groups of friends traveling together try to keep up with one another. Or you may think the people you are with want to keep going, so you press on. In reality, everyone might be on the same page and want to slow down a bit to rest, relax, and appreciate their surroundings.
