The North Carolina Museum of History is one of more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to military personnel and their families this summer in collaboration with the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, and the Department of Defense.
The North Carolina Museum of History announces the launch of Blue Star Museums, a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America to offer free admission to the nation’s active-duty military personnel and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The program provides families an opportunity to enjoy the nation’s cultural heritage and learn more about their community, especially after a military move. A list of participating museums is available at arts.gov/bluestarmuseums.
The museum has several exhibits that may be of particular interest to service members and their families, including American Red Cross: Healing the Warrior’s Heart through Art and North Carolina and World War I.
“The North Carolina Museum of History is proud to participate in the Blue Star Museums program. North Carolina citizens have a long tradition of service to the military, and being a Blue Star Museum is a way for us to honor our veterans and active military personnel,” said Ken Howard, Director of the N.C. Museum of History.
The North Carolina Museum of History takes pride in being a Blue Star Museum. In appreciation for their service to the country, all active United States military, Reservists, National Guard, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps, and their family members as defined by Blue Star Families guidelines can take advantage of the following benefits through Labor Day, September 4, 2017.

- Every day of the year, the North Carolina Museum of History Associates offer a membership discount to all active and retired United States Military: $10 off the individual, couple/dual, and family memberships
- Any active military may purchase a special military discounted membership in the Museum Shop and receive 20 percent off* your first purchase that day, rather than the 10 percent offered as part of a Blue Star Museum

This year’s Blue Star Museums represent fine arts museums, science museums, history museums, nature centers, and dozens of children’s museums, including newly participating museums: the Edgar Allen Poe Museum in Richmond, Virginia; The Blues Foundation’s Blues Hall of Fame Museum in Memphis, Tennessee; the Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument in Hagerman, Idaho; and the Buffalo Bill Center of the West in Cody, Wyoming. Museums are welcome to join Blue Star Museums throughout the summer.

Blue Star Museums is a collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America. The program runs from Memorial Day, May 29, 2017, through Labor Day, September 4, 2017. The free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, which includes active duty U.S. military — Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps — and up to five family members.
