As a huge fan of wall art and DIY crafts, I have always been intrigued by modern art. Even though I really like the idea of wondering down impressive, marble halls, I find it art museums can sometimes feel intimidating and inaccessible. What I have realized is that it isn’t supposed to feel that way. Art is supposed to engage audiences and many times, even be fun!
Did you know that many art movements grew out of frustration with mainstream ideas and systems? For example, Impressionism was created by artists who were tired of listening to rules dictated by the European elite. Pop Art came as a reaction to Abstract Expressionism. Rather than avoid form, artists from the Pop Art genre wanted to make use of it, especially as consumer culture was exploding across post-war America. When you think of art in that way, as a reaction to current events, I find it makes some sense of the out-there art that you can see today.
The team over at Invaluable helped me find the fun in the art with this personality quiz. Can you guess which style matches my personality? Share with your kids and introduce them to a new way of looking at fine art. This fun way of viewing a serious topic can help them relate to a type of art they may never have seen before!
If you are interested in learning more about each movement, check out the art movements post on the Invaluable blog which will give you a little more insight on what each of these results means.
Even though I never wanted to be a celebrity, I identify with Pop Art the most! I’ve always been one to color inside the lines and have never been a fan of the romantic movies. I am a realist at heart, much like some of the leading Pop Artists.
