We’ve all picked up a new hobby in quarantine. Some of y’all are reading more or going on hikes. If you’re like me, you’ve become a baking enthusiast who’s put on the quarantine fifteen. Other people have found a more productive use of their time: photography. Here are some must-know tips for new photographers who are anxious to get started.
Do Your Research
Research should be at the top of every photographer’s to-do list. After all, the more y’all study something, the more y’all will appreciate it. For instance, I didn’t get into baking until I started reading popular cookbooks with all these fabulous recipes. They made me want to challenge myself and see what I could do in the kitchen. Because of this, I think every novice professional should research their craft. Photographers should check out the newest trends and the history of lighting in photography. The more prepared y’all are, the better off y’all will be.
Learn the Terms
Sadly, the learning doesn’t stop after the initial research. Y’all will have to learn important industry terms so that they don’t look lost if a colleague tries to speak with them. For example, people should learn the differences between landscape and portrait photography. These folks should also know about what makes a good subject. Not every picture comes out great. I don’t want to see any more dinner preps; show me something interesting.
Rely on the Experts
Whether y’all are hobbyist photographers or want to become professionals, new photographers should rely on the experts. Y’all can start following others on social media to see what’s going on in the field. These people can teach others tips and tricks that’ll help them out, and share their previous experiences.
