Remember a few weeks ago when I was telling you all about the guard petals on a rose and how you can use them to make potpourri. Well, the time has come to show how you can make potpourri in a few easy steps. You can put this potpourri in a sachet that you buy a $1.00 a pack at the Dollar store and your underwear drawer won’t know what hit it. Here are the items that you will need to make your own potpourri.
- dried petals ( I used yellow roses for mine because that is what I had on hand)
- a jar with a lid- a mason jar works great
- spices ( I used whole sticks of cinnamon for my spice, once again because I just happened to have it)
- essential oil ( I used lavender)
Here are the steps you need to follow. After your flowers have faded and started to die, gently unpeel the petals from the stem and lie them flat. Let them dry a few days. After a few days are over, take your whole sticks of cinnamon and tear them into little pieces.
Mix it in the jar with petals and add a few drops of essential oil.
Seal the jar and shake it. Keep it in the sealed jar for 10 days. During those ten days, shake the jar about once a day to allow the essential oil to fully seep into the petals and the cinnamon. I will warn you that the when you first open the jar after ten days the lavender scent will be very strong. But just like everything else, this scent will fade.
I think this is a great way to enjoy your flowers a little longer. My daughter has a ton of roses from her boyfriend that she is ready to make potpourri with so she can take them off to college.
So you see with just a little time you won’t have to spend a ton of money on something that will make your house and underwear smell nice. Because that there is all there is to this recipe. The actual time it took me to put the potpourri together was less than 5 minutes. Can you spare 5 minutes, I know you can? This would also make a great hostess gift as well as super birthday and Christmas gifts.
Well now that is easy! It bet it smells great, too!

You know I never could stand the smell of the stuff my Nanny used and I would usually accidently drop it in the toilet when I was younger lol.
